Work on the “Build a Chair from Bulls%$t” project is progressing, and we hope to launch everything – the printed book, a free how-to video and free downloadable patterns – in early April.
R. Keith Mitchell, a professional woodworker and commercial artist, is making the drawings for the book. Keith has illustrated several Lost Art Press books, and I wrote the book with his illustrations in mind. His style is straightforward but approachable, and he has a woodworker’s eye, so the focus is always on the right things.1
You might remember him from this hit in “Workshop Wound Care,” by Dr. Jeffery Hill.
And he provided many beautiful illustrations in our newest book, “Good Eye,” by Jim Tolpin and Geo. Walker.
With Keith’s drawings in place, the book is beginning to look like the vision in my head.
And a Video
Apprentice Kale Vogt and Bridgid Meyer (Dinkles Woodshop) are filming a video this week that shows how to build the chair in the book using home center materials and tools. Bridgid and Kale have also caught a couple small details in the book’s text that need to be revised (such as, you really need four bar clamps – not three).
The video will be free for everyone and distributed widely.
