You probably know that I’ve been cooking gummy bears and worms to make them into glue. Bottom line: gummy bears and hide glue are made using similar ingredients. So, the gummy glue I made was tasty, sticky and (after a couple days) as hard as glass.

We have also determined it is reversible (via heat and water) and can be crystalized by soaking it with alcohol.

The next phase of the experiment is to buy it from the grocery store. Powdered collagen/gelatin (the primary component in hide glue and gummy fauna) is readily available at your local market. It is cheap – about 93 cents to $1.04 per ounce. Hide glue pearls are also cheap – $1.12 per ounce for cabinetmaking glue.
