Swag Week No. 5
Not sure what to call “this” thing.
Years ago, a reader with an embroidery machine sent me this. By “this” I mean the thing in the photo. I don’t know exactly what to call it, but it is awesome.
During one of John Brown’s many phases, he wrote a column for Good Woodworking magazine called “The Anarchist Woodworker,” and it featured this little guy holding a bomb.
I’ll be honest: I have no idea if JB was an anarchist, or if he just liked being a contrarian. I would never use violent imagery. But I get it. It’s funny, and I don’t have a stick up my butt about stuff like this.
Anyway, you can win “this.” This 14" x 15" “this” would look good on your shop wall. “This” would be too thick to add to a shirt. But “this” is one-of-a-kind.
What is “swag week?” For a long time, I’ve wanted to come up with a way to say “thank you” to the paid subscribers of our three substacks. It is impossible to overstate how much the subscription money has helped us.

So the first week of every month, we’re going to give away something nice, unique or rare from our vast collection of books, tools and ephemera.
We’re going to select – at random – a paid subscriber from our three substacks. We’ll announce the recipient here. And then we’ll send the item out anywhere to them on planet earth.
If you’re a paid subscriber, you’re eligible. There’s nothing you need to do. If you subscribe to more than one substack, you will be even more eligible because your name will be in the pool of subscribers two or three times instead of once.
So if you’re a paid subscriber, do absolutely naught!
The winner will be announced on July 13.

It's the man who was Thursday!
Is "banner" the correct answer?
