Here’s an inexpensive option if you want to start engraving spells with straight lines: a girdling knife. These come in a variety of sizes – 1/8”, 3/16” and 1/4” – and are used in agriculture to encourage a plant to grow bigger fruit at a faster pace.
I ordered the 1/8” knife, but they might have sent me the 1/4”. The curve on the end of this knife is 1/4” diameter. Or perhaps the manufacturer uses the radius of the curve (1/8”) to denote the tool’s size. Either way, the thing works.
These tools are available at a wide number of agricultural supply stores for less than $20.
